Batik is an ancient textile-decorating technique by applying dye-resist agent, hot wax commonly, before dyeing. In this project, we have assembled a DIY dye-resist batik kit based on Batik Simbut. Batik Simbut is an old technique from the Baduy tribe in West Java who uses glutinous rice paste and palm sugar as the dye-resist. This alternative dye-resist technique allows batik-making to be more convenient and accessible for all ages and abilities. Yes, this could be a great family project too!
